Cursillo Corner

De Colores!

What is Cursillo?

Cursillo is a movement of the church. Its purpose is to help those in the church understand their individual callings to be Christian Leaders. The leadership may be exercised in work situations, in the family and social life, in leisure activities, and within the Church environment. Leadership, in Cursillo, does not mean power over others, but influence on others; all of us need to be aware that we can exert a positive influence on those around us.

The Cursillo community at St. George’s is growing and we want you to be a part of this Christian movement.  The "corner" will keep you updated. If you have been to Cursillo, please get or continue to be involved in the happenings of this network! If you have not attended a Cursillo weekend, please prayerfully consider doing so.  Applications are available at the church per Fr. Rick. The website, full of helpful and interesting information, is www.cursillosc.org.

The first Cursillos were in Spain and in the Roman Catholic Church. The original language was Spanish, hence the greeting of De Colores [the colors] and the closing of Ultreya  [persevere/stay the course]. Historically, the laity formulated a plan to cause other laity to make our everyday settings of life Christian, by service. Cursillo is a tool by which dedicated clergy and laity can authorize the ministry of bringing the world to Christ.

Our local ultreya consists of 4 churches: St. Paul’s-Summerville, St. Jude’s-Walterboro, Trinity-Pinopolis & St. George’s-Summerville.  The next Cursillo weekend is July 22nd-25th, 2010. Please keep St. George’s participants Mike and Julie Mulligan and Jim Cooper and team members Jay and Sue Freeman in your prayers: that no obstacle the devil may set in their paths will keep them from encountering the Holy Spirit! The following Cursillo weekend is October 21st-24th with Sue Freeman serving as the lay rector. Prayers are asked for her, the team and the participants as all are called to enter into a closer relationship with Him... the journey continues!

Each interested participant needs a Cursillista to sponsor him/her and clergy endorsement. The goal of Cursillo is the goal of the Church: to bring all to Christ. This is done when informed, trained leaders set out with the support of others having a similar commitment. Let us all - in the name of our Lord - keep on keepin’ on!
